I Was Bored — a stacking game from a 5-year-old's eye level
I Was Bored (ひまだったから。) is a cozy but surprisingly tricky first-person stacking game. It’s free to play in your browser (desktop, mouse and keyboard).
Play
- Play on itch.io (English / Japanese)
- Play on PLiCy (a Japanese game site)
What is it?
You’re five years old. Mom has gone shopping and will be back at five. You’re bored… so you start stacking the ordinary things lying around the house — picture books, toy blocks, a toy car, bottles, mugs, a school backpack, a daruma, floor cushions, a cardboard box — as high as you can.
- Realistic-ish physics: weight, shape and slipperiness feel like the real thing. The order and the orientation you stack in decide how high you can go.
- Little hands: what you hold shakes a bit, more with heavy things. Hold Shift to be careful.
- Climb up onto the step stool or a chair once the tower is taller than you.
- A Japanese home in the afternoon: a living room and a tatami room, with the sunlight slowly turning into sunset.
- Two modes: While Mom’s Out (10 minutes, ends with a polaroid of your tallest tower) and Free Play.
- 14 challenges such as “25 cm of books only” or “something round on top”.
